Senior Research Scientist
Novo Nordisk
Your impact begins here We are seeking a talented and motivated colleague to join our Biophysics and Injectable Formulation team. In this role, you will collaborate across disciplines to accelerate research and help design the next generation of pharmaceuticals that meet unmet patient needs. As Senior Research Scientist, you will use biophysics to help decide which drug molecules move forward and how they become stable injectable treatments. You will design experiments, recommend molecule designs and drive formulation development towards clinical development. Working with colleagues across biology, chemistry and recombinant technologies, you will bring automation, high-throughput screening and AI into daily research, helping design the next generation of treatments for unmet patient needs. Your work helps us respond to complex, cross-regional needs with clarity and pace, so Novo can move closer to its purpose of driving change for lasting health. What you’ll bring A PhD in biochemistry, biophysics or a related field, preferably combined with at least two years of additional relevant experience and strong expertise in biomolecular science. Strong collaboration and networking skills, with demonstrated ability to contribute in matrix project teams. Excellent analytical skills and the ability to independently draw and communicate clear conclusions from complex data. Excellent written and spoken English, strong communication skills and a team-first approach to solving complex challenges.
Useful, but not essential: Laboratory experience with assay development in high-throughput formats and automation. Experience with protein engineering and/or formulation development. Experience with NMR spectroscopy for characterisation of proteins and peptides.
What you’ll do You will apply biophysical characterisation to find fit-for-purpose drug molecules and develop stable injectable formulations, across peptides, proteins, monoclonal antibodies and multi-specific formats. You will have a high level of independence and flexibility within the research project framework. Design biophysical characterisation and screening experiments that meet project needs, and recommend molecule design and modality choices for optimal developability in the discovery phase. Drive formulation development to enable progression towards clinical development. Use state-of-the-art techniques such as light scattering, chromatography, SAXS, nanoDSF, FIDA and NMR to assess drug-product risks in research projects. Drive the implementation of new technologies and ways of working in the department. Apply automation and high-throughput screening to enable efficient characterisation and selection of molecules with optimal developability profiles. Explore and apply digitalisation and AI approaches that bridge experimental science and digital tools to address research project needs.
Who you’ll work with You will join Biophysics and Injectable Formulation, a research area of three departments that share biophysical characterisation of biomolecules and injectable formulation development as core tasks. We are part of the Drug Product Research unit, which is responsible for early injectable and oral formulation development and drug product analyses across the Novo research portfolio. The area houses a broad portfolio of state-of-the-art biophysical instrumentation and automation. Day to day, you will work alongside scientist and laboratory technician colleagues, sharing ideas across scientific specialisations. You will collaborate closely with colleagues in biology, chemistry and recombinant technologies at Novo, as well as selected external industry and academic partners. Together, you will turn data into clear recommendations that help projects move forward.
What you can expect here You will have the trust and autonomy to drive change, within a collaborative culture where your contribution matters. You will work with advanced instrumentation and automation, learn from colleagues across disciplines, and help shape how the department adopts new technologies, digital tools and AI. You will be supported to perform at your best, while being encouraged to make your voice heard and grow with the team. Salary For this role, the annual base salary ranges from 651.000 to 956.900 DKK, corresponding to the level of the position. The placement within the salary range will be assessed during the recruitment process based on the candidate’s skills, competencies, knowledge, and relevant experience. Incentives and Benefits: The salary package may include short-term and/or long-term incentives as well as other employee benefits based on position level, location, functional area, and relevant market benchmarks.
